With the rise of obesity and related health risks, accurate body composition tracking is essential for health monitoring and disease prevention. Fit3D’s advanced 3D optical imaging (3DO) offers an accessible, precise method for assessing body composition across diverse populations. A recent analysis from the Shape Up! Adults study evaluated 3DO’s accuracy and precision in estimating body composition compared to the gold-standard DXA method, analyzing results by age, BMI, and ethnicity.
The study, which included over 600 participants, found that 3DO achieved a high level of agreement with DXA in estimating total fat and fat-free mass, with an R² of 0.94 and minimal error in both males and females. While Fit3D’s model performed consistently well across age and BMI groups, adjustments may improve accuracy for specific subgroups, including underweight, Asian, Black, and NHOPI females. Overall, the study confirms Fit3D’s capability to provide reliable body composition insights across various demographics, making it a valuable tool for inclusive health assessments.
